One of the original attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom when the theme park first opened its doors on October 1, 1971, Tomorrowland Indy Speedway (originally known as Grand Prix Raceway) lies near the Northern entrance to Tomorrowland and adjacent to Mickey’s Toontown Fair.
Long, winding lines are typical for this attraction but plenty of Indy race car photos and memorabilia can be viewed while you wait. The approximately 5-minute-long ride itself speeds you at 7.5 miles per hour along a 4/10-mile winding track toward the finish line where the checkered flag is waved. Spectators can observe all the action from a special observation bridge.
The Tomorrowland Indy Speedway is located across the thoroughfare from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, which serves burgers, chicken sandwiches and ice-cold refreshments. Pick up racing memorabilia at the Racing Specialties Cart, which lies just outside the entrance to the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway.
Height Restrictions: You must be 52 inches tall to drive one of the Indy cars alone. However, children of all ages can be passengers in the Indy cars. Other restrictions apply for the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway; make sure to read the sign at the entrance to the attraction.
