Originally known as the WEDway People Mover, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority zips passengers around Tomorrowland for a 10-minute journey that provides a close-up preview of some of the area’s most popular attractions, including Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The ride also gives you spectacular, bird’s-eye views of many other attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom such as Cinderella Castle. Recorded narration offers details of the Tomorrowland attractions as you approach them, as well as a fascinating model of a futuristic city.
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority lies directly in the center of Tomorrowland at the Rockettower Plaza, just below Astro Orbiter and across from both Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the Carousel of Progress. To reach the entrance to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, take the escalators up to the loading platform. Nearby restaurants include the Launching Pad, Plaza Pavilion and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. For souvenir shopping near the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, check out Mickey’s Star Traders.
The WEDway People Mover first opened at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in 1975 and was renamed Tomorrowland Transit Authority after the completion of renovations in 1994. The Transit Authority trains run on a state-of-the-art linear induction powered motor system using magnets and can travel up to 10 miles per hour.
Note: Long lines are extremely rare for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, so it is a good ride to choose when you want to beat the heat and relax for a little while before you move on to other, more crowded attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
